Eva van Aalst was born in Eindhoven, grew up in Helmond and now lives in Amsterdam. Ever since Eva can remember she has been drawing. The drawings she made as a child were not of high quality. This is evident from the anecdote that in group 2 a boy from the class took her drawing to show everyone that she could not draw hands, but rakes. The children in the class thought that was very funny. Fortunately, that didn't bother Eva and she entered every coloring competition and regularly won a top prize. This was mainly due to the unique approach to the competition. From an early age, Eva said she wanted to become a chair designer. So not an illustrator. After high school she was accepted at the Rietveld Art Academy, where she graduated (in 2010) in design. Things turned out differently than planned. Eva turned out to have too much imagination to put into the design of a chair. In addition to the design lessons, she also received drawing and painting lessons, where Eva discovered the infinite possibilities of drawing.
Eva currently lives and works in Amsterdam. In her studio in the bustling Volkshotel, Eva draws colorful digital illustrations with crazy humor and silly characters in which her imagination and stories come to life. The more stories in one illustration, the better!
In 2017, Eva made her debut as an illustrator of the children's book “Dikke Vik end dirty Lies become friends” written by Sunna Borghuis. This book won the Hotze de Roos prize. This was followed by 3 more parts.
Eva made her debut as a writer and illustrator in 2019 with her first look-see book with read-aloud story “Kosmo's space journey”.
Eva illustrated the book "Amsterdamse beastie" for the nature in the city foundation, with the aim of getting children into nature.
The book series "The train journey of Tommie and Tess" and the accompanying locomotive for the railways, with the mission to make children enthusiastic about the railways.
And various other children's books, magazines, websites, cards for various publishers and private customers.
Eva also gives illustration lessons to children with the theme FANTASY, in which she encourages children to use their imagination. She gives drawing tips and helps the children with funny drawing games. Examples: The space creature drawing game, the super crazy animal drawing game with a giant dice.
Eva has a clearly recognizable drawing style. Not only in how she draws, but also in what she draws.
